The Amador Adult Basketball League’s 2020 spring season – featuring six A League teams and eight B League teams – tipped off on Sunday, March 8 with a full slate of games at Amador High School in Sutter Creek.

In A League action, perennial AABL powerhouse the County Boys, led by Casey Ryan, opened the spring season with an 82-74 victory over Tyler Cagle’s Get Out and Go.

Ryan scored a game-high 29 points for the County Boys, while Jeremy Gruenwald scored 21 points to lead Get Out and Go.

The Outsiders A team opened its season with a victory, defeating Botto Inn 61-42 behind a team-high 22 points from Luke Hoff. Colin Duell led Botto Inn with 10 points.

The final A League game of the night featured the biggest surprise of the night as the newly-formed Brick Layers rallied back from a 20-point deficit in the second half to stun the defending AABL Fall League champion Blue Ballers 79-76 in overtime.

Jimmy Dockett led a balanced scoring attack for the Brick Layers to help overcome a monster game by the Blue Ballers’ Austin Johnson, who scored the most points of any player in the opening week of AABL action with 33 points, including a game-tying 3-pointer at the end of regulation to force overtime.

In B League action, the Outsiders B defeated Team Bye Week 57-25. Jeremy Koko, Jimmy Kenyon and Kalub Maciolek scored 12 points each to lead the Outsiders B, while Joe Thomason scored 14 points to lead Team Bye Week.

The Sheepdogs, led by 15 points from Biloun, defeated BTB Adventures 65-51. Pat Caine scored 14 points to lead BTB.

Mueller’s Elite, which won the AABL B League championship this past fall, opened its season with a close win over Jam Fam, getting 21 points from Joe Shanley in a 69-67 win. Marcus Mercado scored 29 points to lead Jam Fam.

In the final game of the night, ACES defeated The Ballers 63-50. Donny Helmig and Derek Dremel scored 16 points each to lead ACES, while Austin Thurman scored 15 points to lead The Ballers.

AABL action continues with games every Sunday through the end of May (no games on Easter Sunday or Mother’s Day) at Amador High School starting at 1:25 p.m. each week.
