The Calaveras High School varsity football team is ready for the playoffs following a 20th straight victory over rival Bret Harte in the annual Calaveras County Big Game on Friday, November 1 in San Andreas.
The latest in a growing series of never-in-doubt rivalry wins over the Bullfrogs earned Calaveras a piece of its first Mother Lode League championship since 2013. Amador, Calaveras and Sonora finished MLL play in a three-way tie for first.
Calaveras (7-3, 4-1) was given the No. 6 seed in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division VI playoffs and will host a first-round game this Friday, November 8 against No. 11 Western Sierra Collegiate Academy of Rocklin (4-6). Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
In the final game of the regular season against Bret Harte (2-8, 0-5), Calaveras got three touchdown runs from sophomore Jake Hopper, a punt return for a touchdown by senior Jonny Lozano, a touchdown pass from senior Nolan Dart to junior Jake Black, and a touchdown run by junior Clayton Moore.
