The quest for a section title came to an end for the Calaveras High School volleyball team with a 25-17, 25-21, 27-25 loss to Escalon in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV semifinals on Tuesday, November 5 at Escalon High School.

Calaveras, seeded third in the Division IV bracket, opened the playoffs with a 25-11, 25-15, 25-19 victory over No. 14 Orestimba on Tuesday, October 29 in San Andreas, then swept No. 6 Woodland Christian in a quarterfinal matchup on Thursday, October 31, also in San Andreas, to advance to the section semifinals and also qualify for the CIF state playoffs.

In the semifinals against No. 2 Escalon (28-9), junior Ava Saiers had a team-high five kills; sophomore Karah Auld had four solo blocks; and junior Alyssa Wyllie had three aces.

Escalon advanced to the section finals and will face No. 4 Union Mine at 3 p.m. this Saturday, November 9 at Ripon High School.

Calaveras, meanwhile, will continue its season next week in the state playoffs, which are scheduled to begin on Tuesday, November 12 with brackets being posted this Sunday, November 10 at cifstate.org.
