Hello again from HOOK’D Bait Shop in Ione! Things are finally getting back to normal, and the fishing is off the hook right now! All our local lakes are producing monster size fish of all species.
The bass fishing is really picking up. Fish have moved up and are sitting on beds. Pro Point Crunch Minnows, brush hogs and Rattle Traps are the ticket right now. Water is in the low 60s and the spawn is on! Trout are being caught from shore on garlic orange power eggs and rotten box mini jigs on a 1/64oz #10 hook. Trolling red racer, copper flo red or nickel chart speedy shiners are bringing in the big trout. Speeds approximately 2.8-3.0 MPH at approximately 25-30 feet deep.
The café is now open! Go check out their newly remodeled outdoor dining area. Bass are starting to spawn. Beds are very visible. Live Target Bait Balls are making the bass go nuts! A-rigs and Keitechs with underspins are doing exceptionally well. If you are not in the market to throw a swimbait, the Z-man Ned rig is bringing in the big ones anywhere from 3-15 feet. Trout bite is pretty consistent with Speedy Shiners approximately 25-30 feet deep naked. Kokanee are approximately 30 feet deep. Pink and Orange 3 Sons Hoochies, Top Coat Flashers. Don’t forget to tip your hooks with tuna soaked shoepeg corn!
The drop shot and senko bite is hot! 4.5-inch Roboworm in red crawler, morning dawn and peoples worm for your drop shot. 5-inch Yammamoto Senko brown purple laminate seems to be doing the trick. Trolling the main lake to china gulch for trout using 3-inch white power grubs, nickel speedy shiners and Top Coat wonderbread flasher 5.5-inch or if you are looking for better action, try a skateboard flasher.
The Oro Madre Bass Anglers have a tournament on April 17 at Lake Tulloch. Kokanee Power has their annual derby at Lake Pardee on April 17. Gold Country Junior Bass Tour has a two-day tournament April 24 and 25 at Don Pedro.
