Amador County High School showed its strength and power, which has led them to several Mother Lode League cross country championships. This time it was seniors Deanne Smith and Dan Clark, who led Amador at the Colfax Invitational on Saturday.
Smith, in her first invitational of the year, according to girls coach Mary Graham, led for most of the race. But on the final stretch of the last hill, Smith succumbed to her lack of training and finished in third place with a time of 12:06, just 5 seconds behind North Tahoe’s Roberts in second place.
Clark led the varsity boys in one of his most brilliant races, coming in third behind Calaveras first-place superstar Greg Long. Already the Long-Clark competition begins. They practice together during the summer and have developed quite a respect for each other’s talents.
Following Clark for Amador were Steve Fultz (fifth), Jeff Lawrence (ninth) and Bill Scholl (13th).
