Outfielder Seth Brown earns the honor for the month of August
STOCKTON, Calif.— Stockton Ports outfielder Seth Brown has yet again been recognized for his impressive 2017 season, this time by Minor League Baseball as he received the prestigious Player of the Month award for August.
In his best season of professional baseball yet, Brown dominated the California League in the final full month of the season and helped Stockton clinch a second-half division championship.
The power hitting left-hander hit .349 for the month and led the California League in total bases (80), home runs (12), RBI (38), Slugging Percentage (.755), and OPS (1.177). Brown was also second in the league with 18 extra-base hits and an OBP of .423 along with his 37 hits and 24 runs. Brown’s 38 RBI in August led the league by 13 and represented the most in any month of professional baseball during the 2017 season, and surpassed Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton’s August total of 37.
Brown, a 19th round selection in the 2015 First-Year Player Draft by The Oakland Athletics out of Lewis-Clark State University, posted a .270 average along with 30 home runs and 109 RBI this season, good for the Ports franchise record.
Stockton is set to begin game 1 of the California League North Division Championship on the road against division rival Modesto Nuts tonight at 7:05 PM. Game two will also be in Modesto on Thursday, September 7th at 7:05 PM with the Ports returning home for game 3 in Stockton on Friday, September 8th at 7:10 PM. If necessary, Game 4 will also be played in Stockton the following day on Saturday, September 9th at 7:10 PM.
