“The Librarian” has been anything but quiet as she climbs the ranks in the world of mixed martial arts.

On Saturday, October 26 at the Napa Valley Expo, Katarina “The Librarian” Legorreta won the first championship belt of her young MMA fighting career with an exciting victory over Valarie “Lethal Bam Bam” Thurs at the SF Combat 1 Premier event in Napa.

In a strawweight title bout, Legorreta, representing Underground MMA/Cen Cal’s Buster Nighthawk Fight Team, defeated Thurs by TKO in the second round.

“She trained extremely hard to bring this title back to Amador County and her hometown of West Point,” said Danny Gryder, Legorreta’s trainer and uncle.

Legorreta improved to 2-1 in her amateur MMA career with the win against Thurs (3-4), who fights out of Sacramento.

Legorreta scored an early takedown in the opening round and the fighters eventually returned to their feet, trading punches in a wild exchange that brought the crowd to its feet before Legoretta swooped in for another takedown.

In the second round, Legoretta again took Thurs down to the mat and bloodied her opponent with a series of blows from the ground, forcing the referee to stop the fight at the 1:29 mark. The bout earned Fight of the Night honors.

“There were some things in the first round I think I did wrong, but I corrected them in the second,” Legorreta said in a post-fight interview. “(I want to thank) my teammates, my coach, my family – especially my grandpa, he does a lot for me – everyone at my gym and anyone whoever helped me … I really owe this to them.”

Legorreta doesn’t have any other fights set up right now, but plans on staying ready for the next opportunity that arises.

“Right now, I just love doing this,” Legorreta said. “Hopefully I’ll have another fight soon.”
