After years of success as a Thanksgiving-season competition, the annual True Sportsman Club Turkey Shoot has become a late Fall tradition for shooters of all ages and genders. This year’s event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 23.

After years of success as a Thanksgiving-season competition, the annual True Sportsman Club Turkey Shoot has become a late Fall tradition for shooters of all ages and genders.

“Our ancestors might have shouldered their muzzleloader and headed to the woods in the hopes of bagging their Thanksgiving Turkey,” Kathleen Lunch of True Sportsman Club said. “But today, you can simply win your turkey … no feathers, no mess, with no more effort than squeezing the trigger.”

A favorite for the little ones to the seasoned longtime shooters, and everyone in between, the Turkey Shoot is open to True Sportsman Club Members and the general public, on their private range in Ione.

“Bring your muzzleloader, rifle and/or handgun, any caliber, any type of sights to the True Sportsman Club (TSC) on Saturday, November 23 between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. for an opportunity to shoot at reactive targets,” Lynch said. “The winner will receive a certificate good for a Swingle Meats turkey weighing up to 15 pounds, perfect for Thanksgiving dinner for the family.

“The TSC range is located off Highway 88, West of Wal-Mart. Turn down Sutter Creek Ranchos Road and follow signs to the range. Each entry is just $5. The event will go on regardless of the weather, and hot dogs and sodas will be provided.”
