The Amador Junior Buffaloes varsity youth football team improved to 3-0 this season with a 53-12 victory over the Ripon Chiefs in Motherlode Valley Football League play on Saturday, September 4 at Amador High School in Sutter Creek.

Michael Nunes had a huge all-around game for Amador, scoring four total touchdowns. A two-way starter at running back and linebacker, Nunes rushed for 90 yards and three touchdowns on three carries, and returned a fumble for a touchdown and had 12 tackles on defense.

Also for the Junior Buffaloes on offense, quarterback Bradley Blankenheim passed for 202 yards and kicked three PATs; wide receiver Jessie Judd had 133 receiving yards, rushed for 29 yards and a touchdown, and had a 2-point conversion; wide receiver Dominic Fillmore had 69 receiving yards and rushed for a touchdown; and running back Anthony McAllister rushed for 21 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively for Amador (3-0), Blankenheim scored a touchdown on an interception; Fillmore had seven tackles and a quarterback sack; Matthew Loftis and McAllister had five tackles each; noseguard Gabriel Bailey had four tackles and a quarterback sack; and defensive tackle Hunter Lynch had two tackles and a forced fumble.

The Junior Buffaloes are one of three undefeated teams through the first three weeks of the season, along with the Escalon Cougars and the Sonora Junior Cats.

Junior Novice

Calaveras 30, Tuolumne 0

On Saturday, September 4 in San Andreas, Carter Lim scored three touchdowns and Mason Williams scored two in a victory for the Junior Reds over the Bears at Calaveras High School.

Riley Emerson and Keshod Anderson led the shutout effort on defense for Calaveras (2-0).

Ripon 24, Amador 12

On Saturday, September 4 in Sutter Creek, Donovan Powers rushed for 88 yards and two touchdowns, and also had a fumble recovery and seven tackles for the Junior Buffaloes in a loss to the Chiefs.

Also for Amador (2-1), Jace Daneri rushed for 37 yards on offense and made three tackles on defense; Michael McDaniel made two tackles and forced a fumble; and Hank MacDonald rushed for 10 yards on offense and made three tackles on defense.

Novice

Ripon 25, Amador 7

The Chiefs stayed undefeated on the season with a victory over the Junior Buffaloes on Saturday, September 4 in Sutter Creek.

For Amador (1-2), Wyatt Loftis rushed for 96 yards and made a tackle on the defensive side; Drake Leppo rushed for 37 yards and made a tackle on the defensive side; cornerback Jeffrey Campbell made seven tackles; and Zahlon Murphy had five tackles.

Junior Varsity

Calaveras 13, Tuolumne 12

Mathew Timewell returned an interception 80 yards for the winning touchdown for the Junior Reds in a close victory over the Bears on Saturday, September 4 in San Andreas.

Jr. Pattolo scored the first touchdown for Calaveras (2-0).

Ripon 24, Amador 0

In an early-season matchup of unbeaten teams, the Chiefs shut down the Junior Buffaloes on the offensive end to take the win on Saturday, September 4 in Sutter Creek.

Defensively for Amador (2-1), Trevor Clement and Daniel Longhurst had five tackles each; Brandon Miller had three tackles and a quarterback sack; and Carson Murphy had four tackles.

Offensively for Amador, Longhurst rushed for 33 yards and had 9 yards receiving in an otherwise quiet game for the Junior Buffaloes.
