On Thursday July 30, 2020, at around 5:17 a.m., the Amador County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a death that occurred at the Kit Carson Convalescent Center in Jackson.
A Deputy responded and discovered a 61 year old male patient of the facility deceased. The deputy was advised the decedent was tested for COVID-19 on July 24 with a positive result on July 29, 2020. The deputy performed the initial investigation at which time the Chief Deputy Coroner took over the investigation.
It was determined the decedent had been at Kit Carson for about 4 years and suffered from chronic respiratory disease, cerebral vascular disease, artheriosclerotic heart disease, hypertensive heart disease, type II diabetes mellitus, and hyperlipidemia.
The decedent’s death was officially determined to be caused by a cardiac related incident. COVID-19 was present but is not considered to be the cause of death.
