Happy New Year everyone. 2019 hasn’t been a bad year for me personally, but as I’ve said before, I spend a lot of time ‘crafting’ because of my bad knees, so that means that I spend a lot of time with the television on.

Here’s hope that you had a wonderful Holiday season, and the new year is a good one. I think that a lot of us would agree that 2019 has not been the best with all of the political upheaval that touches us all. I’m confident that our little piece of America stays healthy, beautiful, exciting …

What a luxury ‘recreational reading’ is to me. I’ve always loved to read, and fortunately, instilled that love of books into my own children at a young age. We made bi-weekly treks to the library (and almost always ended up at the ice cream store).

I wish all of you a very Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year, a Happy Chanukkah, Kwanzaa, Boxing Day, Yule, or whichever holiday you choose to celebrate. It’s a wonderful time of the year, and I wish everyone happiness. Did you know that National Sangria Day is today, December 20. (I really LO…

In case you’ve missed it, Christmas is around the corner. Now Amador is famous for a number of things, and we’ve managed to even capture a few, from time to time, in our little newspaper. I’ll be the first to admit this year snuck up on me a bit. Holidays can be tough times for many. It’s be…

As I sit here and write this column, it’s the evening before Thanksgiving, and I am down in Santa Clara at my son David’s home. We are expecting 20 people for dinner tomorrow, so there is a lot of cooking, a bit of house straightening, and a lot of talk about tomorrow going on.

As we age, it isn’t unusual or unreasonable to think about end of life issues. It makes sense to plan to provide for our loved ones, for end of life care, even for funeral arrangements. But sometimes planning ahead can be a sign that someone is thinking of taking their own life.

I know its late notice, but a friend of mine has two tickets for the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 4th. They are box seats and he paid $3,500 per ticket, which includes the ride to and from the airport, lunch, dinner, a $400.00 bar tab and a pass to the winner’s locker room after the game…

When entering Sheriff Ryan’s office and being warmly greeted by him your eyes are immediately focused on all the past to present memorabilia, as well as an electric fireplace with two comfortable chairs beside it. Although very practical in the winter months for a heat source, he enjoys the …

While watching a television program about the weather, I was amused to see all of these seemingly crazy people that like to drive into storms just for the thrill. Now I ask you, what on earth can be thrilling enough to make someone drive within a few hundred feet of a live tornado and just s…

A five-day vacation requires only one suitcase. You can open all your own jars. You get extra credit for the slightest act of thoughtfulness. If someone forgets to invite you, he or she can still be your friend. Your underwear is $8.95 for a three-pack. Two pairs of shoes are more than enoug…

I have been driving myself crazy for about the past four days. Why? I don’t have an answer for that. I ‘fell’ across this YouTube Channel called “Hope For Paws” and I just can’t seem to stop watching.

A few years after I was born, my Dad met a stranger who was new to our small town. From the beginning, Dad was fascinated with this enchanting newcomer and soon invited him to live with our family.

What do you expect from such simple creatures? Your last name stays put. The garage is all yours. Wedding plans take care of themselves. Chocolate is just another snack. You can never be pregnant. You can wear a white T-shirt to a water park. You can wear NO shirt to a water park.

I was down in Santa Clara last week. The weather was wonderful and I had a nice visit. I was down there to teach one of my grandsons how to drive. If you can imagine learning how to cope with mad, horn-tooting, get-out-of-my-way, I’m-better-than-you kinds of people by the droves, then you’ll…
