Hello Amador County Public Schools Families & Staff,
I'm reaching out to give you an update on the stakeholder committee work in progress. Our ultimate goal is to return to "business as usual" on our school campuses, and we also know from our County Public Health Officer Dr. Kerr that it must look different for a while. So, our committees are working hard to develop the best possible plan for August that will (1) provide options for families to choose from, (2) allow the most amount of time on campus for our students whose families want that, and (3) be safe and financially responsible.
Our next step in the planning process is a move to two subcommittees (elementary and secondary) composed of parents and staff from the two original committees. By July 15, they will look at the data from a new, short family survey that you will receive from your child's school later today, which was requested by the committees, and develop detailed plans for recommendation. My team and I will review the committees' plans and prepare a recommendation to submit to the Board of Trustees on or before July 20.
I understand that waiting is not ideal for family planning or teachers' planning, but this will allow us to have the necessary information to make the best possible recommendation to the Board, including the final state budget and any changes related to COVID-19. As a mom of two kids, an elementary teacher for 10 years and principal for 14 years, I know this is really tough. I'm asking you to work with us, be patient, and believe with me that we will be able to open school with some options for families so everyone is safe and students are learning.
Thank you so much for understanding and for your continued support.
Dr. Amy Slavensky, ACUSD Superintendent
