On Sunday, February 28, 2021, at 6:36 a.m., CHP dispatch received a call from a passing motorist of a traffic collision on Highway 124 west of Highway 16. Upon CHP arrival, a 2001 Toyota Corolla was found off the north side of the roadway, and had rolled several times. 55-year-old, Sacramento resident, Gayva Marie Sims, was the sole occupant in the Toyota and sustained fatal injuries. Sims was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. She was pronounced deceased on scene.
