LETTER

I am writing you in hopes that you will listen to me and carefully consider what I am asking of your newspaper.

I was recently arrested for something that I did not do. I was released from jail and was not charged. I asked that your paper not publish my name. You did it anyway. I am asking that you do not release names of people until they are convicted. You could say five people arrested for DUI etc. Unless, of course, it is a major crime (murder, etc.). When people see names, they assume the person is guilty even if that is not the case. Your paper is not doing the community a service. It is, in fact, dirtying the small jury pool that this county has. Many people are pre-judged because of your paper. This is not funny. It is a form of embarrassment. Let the judges and juries decide a person’s guilt, not your paper.
