On October 21, 2019, at approximately 7:42 p.m., California Highway Patrol (CHP Amador) officers investigated a fatal collision on Highway 88 west of Blue Sky Drive (Amador County). According to reports, Terrence W. Campbell, a 66 year-old male from Ione, was driving his 2003 Toyota westbound on Highway 88, west of Blue Sky Drive. For reasons that are yet to be determined, Campbell collided with the rear of a 2005 Toyota driven by Jenine A. Munir, a 35 year-old female that was six months pregnant from Valley Springs. The force of the impact sent Munir into the opposing, or eastbound lane where it was struck by a 2018 Toyota driven by 73 year-old, Dennis Brooks, of Pine Grove.

Terrence W. Campbell, his passenger, 63 year-old Kim D. Campbell, and Munir, as well as her unborn child, all sustained fatal injuries as a result of this collision. Brooks was flown to a nearby trauma center with non-life threatening injuries.

Highway 88 was closed in both directions for approximately 6 hours. It is unknown at this time whether alcohol and/or drugs played a role in this collision.
