Gene Edmond Kirkes passed away on Friday, June 7, 2019 at his home with his children by his side.   

Gene was born in Tuskahoma, OK on May 11, 1942.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Vada Kirkes of OK; sister, Vera Ragan of OK; brother, Junior Kirkes of OK; his in-laws, Roy and Velma Ragan of Sutter Creek, CA; and his beloved wife of 49 years, Ida Ruth Kirkes of Sutter Creek, CA.  Gene is survived by his four children, Debbie (Greg) Jordan, Steve (Janet) Kirkes, Pam Woolsey, and Buddy Kirkes.  Gene was blessed with seven grandchildren, Keith Cotterell, Gina Walker, Kayla Heissenbuttel, Kimberly Bell, Kristina Woolsey, Robbie Woolsey, and Ragan Kirkes.  He had six great grandchildren, Joey, Hannah, Emery, Wyatt, Laynee, and his namesake, Wesley Gene.

Gene moved to California when he was seventeen and went to work for Wetsel-Oviatt in Omo Ranch until the last lumber truck left the mill in El Dorado Hills in October of 2003.

Gene was honorably discharged from the United States Army in November 1969.  He shall forever be honored as an original member of the initial Muster Roll of the 45th Infantry Brigade.  He was awarded a marksmanship badge.

Gene married the love of his life, Ida Ruth Ragan on June 17, 1967 in Carson City, NV.  Gene and Ida raised their four children in Plymouth, CA.  They later moved to Oklahoma for a short period before coming home to Amador County to spend their final days in Sutter Creek.

Gene and Ida had a few very close friendships that were more like family and they spent many hours with A.D. and Ween Adkins.  They are all together playing Aggravation now.  Pat and Tony Antonini shared their love of dance with them and they would spend every weekend together.

Gene will be placed at Sunset View Cemetery in Jackson, CA next to Ida at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, June 14, 2019.  Friends are also invited to attend a public visitation the night before, from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Friday June 14th at Daneri Mortuary, in Jackson, CA.  Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.danerimortuary.com and signing the guest book.
