Johnny Wayne Fisher

Johnny Wayne Fisher of Ione, California passed peacefully surrounded by family on September 9, 2021.

Butch, as he was known by family and friends, was born on March 20, 1944, in Arlington, Texas, the son of the late John D. and Belma Fisher.

Butch was a Heavy Equipment Owner/Operator for 39 years and retired from John Fisher Construction in 2002. He has been a member of the Operating Engineers Local Union No. 3 for 57 years.

Butch joined the Army in August 1963. He served with the 168th Engineer Combat Battalion, attached to the 1st Infantry Division. He served in Vietnam, Boots on the Ground, from 1965-1966. He earned his Marksman (M-14), Expert (M-14), Good Conduct Medal (1st Award), National Defense Service Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal. He received an honorable discharge in 1966.

Butch met the love of his life in September of 1966. They united in marriage on July 29, 1967. They have two children, Teresa and Trevor. Hayward was home for 35 years. Butch made his way to Amador County, where he has been a resident for 34 years.

He was an active member of SIRS 96 in Jackson, CA. He served as Wagon Master on many RV excursions through the United States. He was also an active member of the Elks Lodge No. 2744 in Jackson, CA, and Sutter Creek Church of the Nazarene. Most recently he was an active member of Castle Oaks Golf Club in Ione, CA.

Butch loved to be on the go. You would find him often on the golf course or at the bowling alley. He loved traveling in his RV with family and friends and never left home without his dog, Gracie. Trips to the Oakland Coliseum were a must when the A’s or Raiders were playing and when the Razorbacks were on TV, the pig sooie chant could be heard on game day. Butch also enjoyed spending time with family and friends whether it was for dinner or just to stop by to say hi.

He was preceded in death by his father, John D. Fisher; mother, Belma Fisher; brother, Danny Fisher, and brother-in-law, Bryans Beggs. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty Fisher; son, Trevor Fisher; daughter, Teresa Fisher Strube; son-in-law, John H. Strube; grandsons, Cody McWilliams, John W. Strube and Max Strube; brothers, Ron Fisher and Frank Fisher; sisters, Judy Smith, Emily Stokes, Melba Beals and Floy Byres; brother-in-laws, James Beggs, Jr., Billy Beggs, Dave Sloan and Stan Sloan; sister-in-law, Fiona Mar. He was an uncle and great-uncle to dozens of nieces and nephews and had a multitude of cousins spread across many states.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 10, 2021, at the Sheldon Inn, 9000 Grant Line Road, Elk Grove, CA from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to be made to your favorite local charity.
