Kenneth “Ken” Elmer Morrison

Kenneth “Ken” Elmer Morrison, age 96, of Jackson, CA, passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2019 in Jackson. Ken was born in Inglewood, CA on September 27, 1923, a son of the late Lillian (Livingston) and Jay Elmer Morrison.

Kenny grew up in Los Angeles, CA. He graduated from Lincoln High School and went on to Woodbury College, studying accounting, where he graduated at the top of his class Suma Con Laude. As a Certified Public Accountant, he served as Treasurer/Controller of “The House of Nine” for 20 years, an LA-based business specializing in small-sized women’s clothes. Later he opened his own accounting/CPA business.

He lived a life of adventure, backpacking in the Sierra Mountains with his wife and daughters and later with his grandsons. He enjoyed camping, fishing and hiking.

Ken belonged to, and was active in, the Presbyterian Church in Southern California. He was an Elder, Building Committee Chairman and beloved Sunday School teacher. After moving to Jackson, he and his wife, Lucille, attended the Methodist and Lutheran Churches, serving as treasurer for both churches. He also was a wonderful narrator for the Christmas Cantata in Amador County.

Ken became a Mason in 1947. He received a 50-year pin in 1997 and the Hiram Award on 11/6/2001. Ken met, mentored, served and has been served by many wonderful fellow Masons over the years in Jackson.

He belonged to the Los Angeles 8mm amateur Movie Club. He was a past president, editor, director and won many awards for his own movies in the club.

Ken was active in the Vagabundos Del Mar, a Sea of Cortez boating club, organized in 1967. In their own boat, he and Lucille cruised and fished Baja California and the Sea of Cortez, the Inland Passage from Vancouver Island to Juneau, Alaska, Lake Powell, the Southern California Coast and Islands as well as the Sacramento Delta … All a part of the adventure!

Kenny also enjoyed traveling the USA … The beauty of the National Parks and visiting family, near and far. Trips abroad included Great Britain, Australia, Fuji and New Zealand.

He loved music from classical to big bands and Dixieland. His piano gave him great joy as he played boogie-woogie, 40s and 50s standards and hymns with pleasure.

Blue birds, hummingbirds, squirrels and deer in his backyard delighted him.

But more than that, it was his family, his wife, and their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family that gave Kenny the most pleasure and to whom he dedicated his wonderful life and legacy.

Ken is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Lucille Morrison of Jackson; daughters, Jeannie Vodden, of Jackson, CA; Susie (Steven) Bentley, of Laurel, Montana; grandchildren, David (Anita) Vodden, Jim (Jennifer) Vodden, Timothy Bentley; 8 great grandchildren; much loved nieces and nephews.
