Kirk Darrell Reuter crossed into the light on Sunday, October 25, 2020, following a hard-fought battle with an aggressive cancer. Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Kirk managed his illness with strength, courage, and grace. He spent his final days surrounded by loved ones, who he cherished above all else.
Kirk was born on September 8, 1957, in Julesburg, Colorado. He was the sixth of seven children, learning the simple pleasures of family adventure at a very early age. He moved to Sacramento in his early youth, and finally to his home in Plymouth as an adult, where he welcomed his three beloved sons, Nathan, Matthew and Jonathan. Together they realized one of Kirk’s greatest dreams, establishing Ard Aven Winery.
In addition to his boys, Kirk is survived by his mother, Dorothy, his brothers, Walter, Donald, Allen, Jason and Wayne, his sister, Karen, and his girlfriend, Erika. He was predeceased by his father, Walter.
If you asked those that knew Kirk who he was, you’d get many different answers. Son. Brother. Father. Uncle. Mentor. Loving Partner. Patriarch. Farmer. Carpenter. Winemaker. Pilot. Rock Climber. Mountaineer. Jumper. Extreme skier. Fisherman. Coach. Best Friend. Life of the party. The strongest, most determined man we ever knew.
Kirk was all these things. He never stopped daring to try new things and explore new territory. In Kirk’s honor, we ask you to embrace his legacy: live every day to the fullest. It’s our adventures that connect, unite and immortalize us.
Our sincere thanks to all who have sent personal messages of sympathy during this difficult time. There will be no public funeral service as a gesture to those most vulnerable during the current pandemic. The family will welcome friends and relatives in a private ceremony to be announced by invitation.
