Virginia Genevieve Waymire, age 104, died peacefully at home in Jackson on July 5, 2019. The oldest of seven children, she was born on December 4, 1914 in Yerington, Nevada to Joseph and Teresa Fabre. Her father immigrated from France in 1897. Her mother was born in Genoa, NV. Virginia was raised on a farm and rode a horse through the sagebrush to a one room school house for her first years of school. She often marveled at the changes she had seen during her lifetime.
In 1938 she received her registered nursing degree from French Hospital in San Francisco, graduating with top honors. She worked at Mercy Hospital in Sacramento for several years.
In May of 1941 she met her husband, Hartzel, on a blind date. They were married three months later and were together for 64 years.
Being a farm girl at heart, gardening was a passion of hers, a love she passed on to her two daughters. Her other interests included hand quilting and sewing, producing many beautiful heirlooms which her family cherishes. Virginia devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver, from helping as a young girl with her six siblings, to caring for her patients as a nurse, and her handicapped son James for 53 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2005 and by her younger son, James, in 2010. She is survived by her three children; Jack (Debbie), Susan (Bob), and Nancy; six loving grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a sister Irene (98 y/o) and brother Ted (100 y/o); and numerous nieces and nephews.
A most sincere thank you to Hospice of Amador and Calaveras for their wonderful care and support. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.danerimortuary.com and signing the guest book.
