Break Bread With Friends volunteers at their Christmas Luncheon. Front Row: Sharon Magill, Pat Fossen, Lois Maddox and Lisa Wigginton, and in the kitchen is Russ Berolo.

Twenty-seven guests joined ten Break Bread With Friends (BBWF) volunteers for a Christmas luncheon of turkey/ham to pie, with all the trimmings. Serving began at 11:00 a.m. on December 21 at the weekly site, St. Patrick’s social hall in Jackson.

Usually, the other 50 Saturdays a year, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., BBWF offers a variety of breakfast menus that rotate during the month. Guests are also provided with a bag lunch.

There is a core of weekly volunteers, but each Saturday, on a rotating basis, other volunteers work in the kitchen preparing the breakfasts or in the dining room, packing lunches. We have volunteers who purchase our food and supplies each week and many folks donate homemade cookies for the lunches.

Meals are free to anyone who walks in the door.

Each year Break Bread With Friends (BBWF) offers this Christmas luncheon the Saturday before Christmas and a similar luncheon the Saturday before Thanksgiving, both in place of the weekly Saturday breakfast and bag lunch fare.

Funds for managing this program come from donations of food and money from the public and the three sponsoring churches: Catholic, Episcopalian and Methodist churches of Amador County.

To learn more about the program, how to donate food, or volunteer opportunities, you are most welcome to just stop by any Saturday.
