Each year for the past 25 plus years, free tax services have been available in Amador County. For the past 20 years, the services have been provided at the Amador Senior Center in Jackson.
Beginning in December, orientation classes will begin for new prospective volunteers. In January, training will continue, which will include a discussion of tax law, the scope of the Tax-Aide program and the practical application of providing the tax services.
While there are about a dozen volunteers returning from last year, we are looking for new volunteers. If you are interested in helping people and serving your community, have a modest grasp of numbers and the basic skills of working with a computer, we would love to talk to you further about the program.
The December orientation classes are on December 9, 11 and 12. The training begins on the week of January 13, and generally lasts for about four days. During the tax year, your commitment is one to two days a week, ending the week of April 15.
If you want more information about the program, or are interested in volunteering, please call Al Bierce at (209) 267-0855, or Rick Spreckel at (209) 296-2771.
