Carolyn E. Cartwright

Carolyn E. Cartwright passed away peacefully at home on December 21, 2021 with her husband and stepson by her side after a 5-year battle with cancer and Parkinson’s disease.

Carolyn was born in Oakland, CA on November 18, 1937 to Oscar and Sue Davis. She was raised in Redwood City, CA, graduated from Sequoia High School and attended the University of the Pacific for 18 months.

Carolyn entered the workforce as a secretary – a job she always loved. She first worked in Palo Alto, CA for the Stanford Research Institute. This was followed by a long career of service at Blue Cross after moving to the Sacramento area.

While working at Blue Cross, Carolyn met the love of her life, Tom Cartwright. They were married on December 30, 1978 with Jeff and Molly standing by their side. They lived for years on a beautiful ranch in Rio Linda, CA, then moved to Carmichael for 20-plus years.

Following retirement for both Tom and Carolyn in 2000, they followed family to God’s country near Jackson, CA in Amador County where they built a beautiful life in the foothills.

Tom and Carolyn had a wonderful group of friends who travelled the world with them. They also explored all of Northern California in their trailers.

At heart, Carolyn was an explorer, having been on 19 cruises that stretched to the far corners of the world. She even tried rafting Class 5 whitewater. Carolyn did not let fear stop her from exploring the unknown.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents and brother Robert Davis. She is survived by her husband Tom; stepson Jeff Cartwright (Rebecca) of Plymouth, CA; stepdaughter Molly Cartwright-Baird (Rich) of Citrus Heights, CA; as well as three grandsons and four great-grandchildren.

Carolyn will be missed by all those she touched in her long life.

Tom and the family would like to extend our deepest appreciation to the Sutter Oncology team, Amador STARS, Bristol Hospice and the Jackson/Pine Grove Fire Department.

Due to COVID-19, a private celebration of life will be held at a future date.

Contributions can be made in Carolyn’s name to Amador STARS or Bristol Hospice.
