Frederick C. Cole, age 78, of Pioneer, CA went to be with the Lord March 13, 2023. He passed away peacefully at home with his wife and sister-in-law by his side. He was born July 4, 1944 in Wamkesha, Wisconsin to Earl and Marjorie Cole. He had five brothers: Jerry, David, John, Allan and Ronald Cole.
Fred graduated in 1962 from La Crescenta High in LA. On September 14, 1962, Fred enlisted in the Army and was based in Havua, Germany. He received his honorable discharge on April 19, 1965. In 1974, Fred was hired by the Forest Service and he graduated from Glendale College in 1976. In March of 1978, Fred was hired by California Fish and Game. His first assignment was in Madera as Game Warden. Fred made the first mechanical deer for catching poachers in the state.
Fred moved through the ranks to Deputy Chief. From 1996 to 2003 he was Assistant Deputy Chief. In Sacramento, Fred wrote policies for the state of California and set up large sting operations in San Francisco. He retired in 2003 after 30 years and at the time there were only five chiefs in the state. He was quoted as saying, “I was paid to work outdoors. What a life!”
Fred was an avid fisherman and turkey hunter.
He is survived by his wife Pam Cole and son Daniel (Jill) Cole. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers David and Ronald Cole.
Funeral will be held Saturday, May 13, 10 a.m. at Sierra Baptist Church, 26355 Buckhorn Ridge Road in Pioneer, CA. A graveside service to follow at Amador Hills Cemetery.
