John Thomas Tinney, born August 7, 1933, in Sayre, PA to Charles and Florence Van Buskirk Tinney. He graduated from LeRaysville High School in LeRaysville, PA in 1953, worked for 2 years then joined the Army in 1955. After his enlistment was up, he went to work for the IRS from 1962 until he retired in 1988. While waiting for his wife Charlotte to retire, he worked at building and repairing computers. After Charlotte’s retiring, they moved to Volcano, CA, where he went to work at the Jackson Rancheria as the night desk clerk at the hotel.

He was an avid coin collector and he started a computer club, and had a computer repair business called Webcentric. He had many interests besides his computers and coins, such as photography, bowling, fishing, gold panning, as well as being a member of First Baptist Church in West Point, and a member of the Gideons.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Charlotte Rena Oglesby; daughter Grace Yvonne Smolens; son John Charles; grandson, Charles Albert Smolens; two granddaughters, Samantha Michelle Duncan and Kelly Ann Tinney; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and one sister, Pegi Wiegand of West Point.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Florence Tinney; a sister, Muriel Crawford; two brothers, Richard and Lawrence Tinney.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, August 8 at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 300 Cemetery Lane, West Point, CA. 95255.
