Louise C. Morgenstern, age 95, of Sutter Creek, CA, passed away on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, in Folsom, CA. She was born on March 27, 1926, in Miami, FL to the late Edgar L. and M. Alice (Swan) Soper, and was married to Joseph C. Morgenstern, Sr. (deceased) for 72 years.
Louise grew up in Washington, DC., and worked at the Veterans Administration in Washington, DC until her marriage to Joe. Joe and Louise met in Washington, DC during the war. After the war ended, they married at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Washington, DC on May 6, 1946. They moved to Maryland to begin their life together. In 1967 the family moved to California. Upon Joe’s retirement they moved to Sutter Creek and lived there for 34 years.
Louise was an accomplished china painter, a skill she learned from her aunt. She enjoyed sewing, stained glass, and gardening. She was a homemaker for 79 years and she never stopped taking care of those around her. Her friends nicknamed her St. Louise in contrast to Joe’s nickname of Old Buzzard. She had a kind and gentle spirit and was a friend to many.
Louise was mother to seven children – daughter, Mary Reynolds; son, Joseph C. Morgenstern, Jr.; daughter, Karen Morgenstern; son, Lawrence Morgenstern; son, Edgar Morgenstern; daughter, Regina Bissett; and daughter, Kristina Morgenstern. Louise has 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 1 great great granddaughter.
