A longtime resident of Amador County has passed away.
Virginia “Virgie” Diane (Christensen) Miller was born on September 4, 1941 to Inez C. – AKC dog show judge – and Peter V. Miller – locomotive engineer and Mayor of South El Monte, CA. She had three brothers: Donald, Ralph (“Gene”) and Wayne (“Buddy”), who all have since passed. Virginia was married to Lyle Christensen in 1960 and later had two children, Mark and Debbie.
The family moved to Amador from Southern California in 1970. Virginia was known mostly for her ownership of Kentucky Fried Chicken in Sacramento in 1978. She and Lyle later opened Up Kountry Fried Chicken in Pioneer, California, which closed in 1985. The couple later divorced and Virginia then went to cleaning houses. She loved to fish, paint ceramics and sell them, play tennis, ski, build furniture, and mostly work in her yard. Virginia was very active in her granddaughter Kellsey Long’s life. She never missed a performance or function Kellsey was in. She was extremely hard-working and not afraid of challenges. She battled six different types of cancers since 1993, which finally overtook her on March 20, 2022.
Virginia was very loved by everyone for her kindness and helping hand. She was known to most as “Handy Andy” for all the things she could do. She will dearly be missed by all.
Virginia is survived by her children Mark Christensen and Debbie Christensen-Long; granddaughter Kellsey Long; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
