Bill & Cheryl Dyer

It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Cheryl Anne Dyer and her beloved husband William (Bill) Henry Dyer IV.

Cheryl was born on September 2, 1944, to Richard Payne Rathburn and Marion Elizabeth Rathburn (Sponholz) in Albany, California and grew up in El Cerrito, CA, graduating from El Cerritos High School and later Contra Costa College with a degree in dental assisting. She spent most of her working career in Napa, CA until moving to Pine Grove when she married Bill on April 16, 2005.

Cheryl was very creative and artistic and loved working with her hands, taking up leather carving and wood carving in her spare time. She was creative in both her use of materials and her designs. She cherished her family, loved working on her garden, but most of all she loved her animals, always having a horse, a dog and a cat or two around to take care of. Cheryl loved horses from childhood and rode throughout her life making lifelong friends from her days at the barn. She was a longtime member of the Napa Horseman’s Association.

She lived in the moment, neither worrying overly about the future, nor agonizing about the past. She was an inspiration to us all. She was always upbeat and happy and brought those around her to her “happy place.” She made friends easily and accepted people for what they were, finding good in everyone.

She and Bill enjoyed many shared interests and traveling with their RV making lots of new friends on the road. They attended Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church in Pioneer, CA.

Cheryl is survived by her beloved daughter, Deanna Lynn, married to Wes Brilz; her grandchildren, Alexander Hermann, Austin Brilz and MacKenzie Brilz; great-granddaughter Aria; sister Marilynn Mayo, husband Jim; brother Robert Rathburn, his wife Bryding; two nieces and two nephews; and many cousins.

Services for Cheryl and Bill will be at Our Lady of the Pines on Saturday October 2, 2021, 1:30 p.m. Condolences can be sent to the family by visiting danerimortuary.com and signing the guest book.

William (Bill) H. Dyer of Pine Grove, CA born July 24, 1946, in San Jose, CA to William and Isola Dyer. Raised in Fremont (Niles), CA and was the eldest of four children. Unexpectedly joined his Father in Heaven on September 9, 2021, along with his loving wife Cheryl Dyer from Napa, CA.

He attended Logan High School, where he made an appearance on American Bandstand and Cal State Hayward. He worked as a professional truck driver for City Market and Keebler Company for many years navigating the mountain passes of the Sierra Nevada and Colorado. Skilled at anything mechanical, he enjoyed years of riding or driving motorcycles, ATVs, Jet Skis, three-wheelers and kayaks. His retirement was dedicated to helping others. He and Cheryl were members of the Golden Nugget RV Club. They enjoyed countless trips throughout California and Oregon with their four-legged companion Benny. Bill was always there to assist or advise a fellow traveler with their rigs or bend the ear of a stranger. As a member of the St. Katherine Drexel Catholic Church of Amador County, he was always there to volunteer with tasks and maintenance the church required. If he couldn’t fix it, most likely no one could. He was a member of Seniors in Retirement, the Elks and a volunteer driver for Stars in Amador County transporting cancer patients for treatment.

He was predeceased by his parents, Bill and Isola and his brother, Robert (Bob) Dyer. He will be sincerely missed by his daughter, DeeDee Brilz and son-in-law, Wes Brilz of Napa, CA; his sister, Susan Dyer Hall and brother-in-law, Bill Hall of Colorado Springs, CO; and his brother Rich Dyer and sister-in-law, Jan Dyer of Sonora, CA.
